  • In two weeks and two days, we shall be moving into our house!! I'm still kind of bummed that we aren't closing on July 13, but oh well. My mom is coming in and with her she is bringing a piano(!), a small table to put under our Sacred Heart picture, the other part to Michael's bunk bed, and a cart for the kitchen that we used to have in our other apartment (it doesn't fit in the one we have currently). It'll be great to have her help since Tom, my father in law, had a six way bypass surgery about a month ago. His help in moving will be in the small things. I can't wait to get settled and shoo Michael outside in the morning in our very own backyard! Our first purchase for the backyard I'm sure will be a little pool for Michael to play in - he loves the one at grandma's. We'd like to get a swing set, but that'll require some saving. Before fall I'm sure we'll be able to get one.
The woman who lives in the house now has so many plants in the backyard, there's no way we're keeping all of them. I'd like to give the ones we're not keeping to a nursery, but I'll have to look into that to see if they would even take them. Or, now that I think about it, I do plan on making a vegetable and fruit garden next summer, I wonder if I could chop up those unwanted plants and use it as compost? If you're reading this Ann, what's your take on it? I'm reading so many books on gardening that I'm starting to feel a bit overwhelmed with how to prepare the soil, where to plant, how to rotate crops, keeping the bugs off, when to plant and harvest....goodness! If only it was as easy as tilling, plant the seeds and water.
Well, kids are awake. Better get going!

  • A 2 year old's memory

It astounds me how well Michael can remember the way to certain places. For example, when we're going to Grandma Turntine's house, the second I turn on the main road there, he goes 'Yeah!' from the backseat, followed by another scream of excitement when I turn down their street. And when we are almost to church, he either starts whining or saying railroad track! (Right past church is the Valley where Wal Mart and Target are located, but we have to go over railroad tracks to get there.) He newest feat is really surprised me since we had only been to that particular store once. I went to a parent teacher's store about a week ago, and there in front is a Thomas train set all put up for the kids to play with. Michael was estactic! When it was time to leave 20 minutes later, he threw the biggest and longest fit I've ever seen. So, when I went down that way yesterday to go to the bread store, he started saying, 'Thomas....train' over and over. Sorry to diasppoint you there, buddy. Now if only he could remember to be quiet when necessary......

My smily little girl. Every time someone pays attention to her, she's all smiles.

Michael is pretending to sleep on the couch. Sometimes he'll even bring his pillow along with him.

We'd put Colleen next to Michael, but she hasn't mastered the art of sitting up without support. And when put in the middle she ends up falling to one side; she doesn't like that.

I stole this idea from PistachioChocolateWife. He had so much fun out there! Most of the chalk got washed off, and our neighbors below us got a waterfall as a result.

Yes, she can roll, and has for about a month now. Here she got stuck by the chair, but took advantage of the chair leg being right next to her mouth. Colleen happily gnawed away.

I went to check on Colleen during her nap yesterday and I thought it was so cute the way her hand is behind her head! You can't tell in this picture, but I have her in between some snugglers - two small pillows attached to one another with a bit of fabric to keep her from rolling around. It works for the most part. Tim found her once laying on the body pillow I have next to her mattress! Such a roll-y little girl!

  • Not much else I can do at 4am, so I guess I'll just write and try not to squint too much from the brightness of the screen.
Interest rates jumped up at the end of last week to 6 % so instead of locking in our original rate of 5.25, we're floating our rate. Basically, we're waiting for it to go down again before locking it in. We have until 3 days before closing to get our rate. But of course, who knows when we'll actually close! The seller asked us if we wanted to move up the date, which we were fine with. She offered June, but we didn't want it that soon. Plus, we wouldn't have given our 30 day notice in time. So we suggested two different dates in July, the 13th or the 22nd. That was over a week ago, and we still haven't heard. It's getting close to us not being able to make the first date we suggested. We plan on closing a day before we move in, and keep the apartment an extra day or two in order to come back and clean. If we haven't heard by the end of this week, the first date goes out the window. Which is fine because the 22nd works better for us since we'd close a day before Tim's 4 day weekend.
Michael and Colleen are so different. Every day (night) just proves it more. I remember having some trouble every now and then in the beginning in getting Michael to sleep. Not counting the first week, I can recall 3 times, maybe 4 times. But we got him asleep, he'd only wake to eat, then go right back to sleep. Colleen now, I don't know if it's because of teething, the runny nose/cough she has, but my goodness, we've been awake since 2:15am. I did get her asleep right before 4, but for some odd reason, she woke the second I put her down. I'd ask Tim to deal with her, but since he has to get up at 5:45am for work, I'd feel guilty making him lose sleep. But then the selfish part of me is thinking, 'you're the one who's been up for over 2 hours already after only getting maybe 3 hours of sleep! How is it that it's okay for you to lose sleep but not him?!' Well, the answer to that is I'm not the one driving around in a car all day. If Tim were to fall asleep at work, there would be bad repercussions.
It seems by the time I may be able to get back to bed, the sun will be starting its rise. Who knows, maybe God will have pity on me and allow my daughter to sleep the entire night, some night soon.

  • I am thankful for a lot of things in my life. For example, my wonderful and awesome husband who deals with our notoriously bad sleeper when he's home during the night; that Colleen is able to sleep by herself (she actually sleeps worse when  I try to sleep with her); that for the most part she is a good baby now that teething seems to have begun; for our house that we bought with it's awesome backyard. I really don't have anything of substance to complain about, except for those few selfish things I miss, like sleep! I don't know how rachels_ramblings does/did it, and is a relatively nice mommy in the morning. Right now, it seems, Colleen is following Samuel in being wide awake come 3/4 o'clock in the morning, and taking about an hour to fall back asleep. Whenever she wakes for her second feeding, that's when she decides to be awake. This morning, I've been up since 4:15am after being awoken at least 3 times by my other child. Finally, come 6am, I decide to just get up with her. I put Colleen in the swing while I made coffee and started to make breakfast for myself. Sure enough, within 10 minutes, she was asleep. So I give Tim my breakfast, who is getting ready for work, and take her and myself back to bed. Half an hour later, we are up again. I honestly can't wait to put her in her own room.
Another thing, I'm starting to be of the mind that once a baby learns to roll, he should also learn to crawl at the same time. That way the baby can get themselves out of predicaments. That being said, babies shouldn't learn to roll until they are at least 6 months old. Colleen sleeps on her crib mattress on the floor next to our bed with a body pillow on one side in case she slips off. Now that she can roll, when she's awake, that's what she does - roll over. And once she's on her back, she does not fall asleep. And I've caught her almost falling into the bookshelf that's at the top of her bed, in addition to her rolling off and landing on the body pillow. The sooner we move, the better.
Thanks for listening. I pray that I'm able to still be a nice mommy today with only a few hours of actually sleep.

About Me

  • I love being a stay at home mom to my beautiful boy and girl, Michael and Colleen! I also enjoy learning as much as I can about my Catholic faith, going camping, reading, watching old movies, and spending as much time as I can with my wonderful husband, Tim.

I'm actually a transplant to St. Louis. My husband is originally from here so when I finished college, we moved here for him to join the police academy. I really enjoy living here; it's a lot like the area I grew up in.
